September Back to School Letter
Dear parents,
My name is Mark McEnery and I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to meeting each of you and working with you over the 2021-2022 school year. This year may again look a little different, but we will all do our best to help your child succeed. In partnership with you, my goal as an educator is to provide a warm, nurturing and productive learning environment for each child.
Please send your child in with a few fresh masks each day. This will help prevent the spread of any germs and hopefully allow us to continue staying in school for the coming months. They will need to use a mask at all times at school, except for when they eat their snacks and lunch.
Please send in a pair of non-marking indoor running shoes for your child. They will need them for gym class. We have gym class three times a week.
Students should each have a labelled and filled water bottle and lunch bag. They will also be bringing home all empty containers and garbage from their lunch. We have snack time twice a day, after each recess. For the safety of all students, please do not send your child with peanut butter, nuts or other nut products.
If you have a pencil case with required tools (pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener, coloured pencils/markers), please send it in. We also have these materials at school for those who need them.
We will be having Library time again this year once things get organized. Students will be allowed to take one English and one French book home each week. A set day will be given to us in the following weeks.
It is recommended that Grade 2 students do between 5 to 20 minutes of homework each evening. Reading with your child is an expected part of homework every night. Homework will be posted on Hapara at the beginning of each week and will be due every Friday. Homework will start in a couple of weeks.
Every Friday we will have a short word wall spelling quiz. The students are asked to read, review and practise writing the weekly word wall words. All new word wall words for the week will be given out every Monday. They will start during the second week of school.
Donations of Kleenex, chair slippers and student headphones would be greatly appreciated this year. Students are asked to bring in any non-electronic games (i.e. card games) to be kept at school and used during free time or severe weather indoor recesses. Lego is also allowed.
Book order forms will be sent home every month. Scholastic Books offers a huge variety of exciting fiction and non-fiction books that encourage children to read. Children love to read when they find something that interests them.
Please ensure your child has appropriate outside clothing and footwear. Please label everything that comes to school. Students will be going outside rain or shine for all recesses unless it is unsafe, so please send rain gear and an umbrella for your child. As well, an extra set of clothes would be appreciated just in case your child gets wet at recess. These can be stored in a bag at their cubby.
Agenda books will be used again this year. Please feel free to communicate with me by using the agenda book. Students are responsible for bringing their agenda book to and from school each day, You can also get in touch with me by calling the school or through my email: [email protected].
I am looking forward to meeting everyone when you arrive back at school. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Mr. M. McEnery
